“Your pleasure is my pleasure, Miss Fairhurst.”
Sir Ragnor Withersby to Miss Judith Fairhurst, in a cupboard, the British Museum, London 1817

A skill at cards is not usually part of a young lady’s repertoire. An astounding skill at piquet? Unheard of. Yet here’s Miss Judith Fairhurst, a natural at the game, facing renowned expert Sir Ragnor Withersby across the table—and thoroughly defeating him.

Their first hand arouses his interest, their first kiss arouses a lot more, and elegant man-about-town Sir Ragnor is about to find out what it’s like to tumble headfirst off a dangerous cliff into unknown waters. There will be gambling, of course. Potential scandals, cheats and revelations will abound. There will be new friends, sculptures, a strange decanter of brandy and a very nice bottom. Perhaps Fate has set their feet on a path to pleasure, but not all their steps will be smooth. Some games must be very carefully played…

"A Gentleman for Judith is an entertaining, well-written romance set in London in the early 1800s. I love pieces from this period, and this book fit in so well with other very well-known period romances. The author has created well-developed characters that are so interesting, and I love Judith's strength and how the author plays with gender roles. The only thing I didn’t like is that it was too short… I would have loved to keep following this story! I can’t wait to read more from Sahara Kelly!"

A Gentleman for Judith The Wednesday Club Book 1 edition by Sahara Kelly Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

  • It's been a while since the last time I've read read such a novel like this, and I am instantly reminded how I enjoyed romance novels set in this era. A Gentleman for Judith is the kind of book I would read on weekend nights.

Strong, passionate and witty heroines on books set in this era are quite unusual, and Judith is a breath of fresh air. Her expertise in card games along with her straightforwardness is unexpected, something that any man (again in that era but then maybe until now) would be appalled about and I like that. Strong women weren't symbolized and celebrated during those times, especially the ones that have their own minds.

This is the first book I've read by Sahara Kelly, and already I look forward into reading more of her books, especially the ones that come in this series. It's fun and entertaining, and the way she plays with words is just superb. This can be noticed in the dialogues between the characters that made them come to life. I highly recommend this to the fans of stories set in old London, and to romance readers in general.
  • If you enjoy Jane Austen’s books about romance and high society in 19th-century England, you’re sure to enjoy this one! Set in London at the time of parties, social seasons, and young debutantes making their inroads in London society, this novel tells the story of young Judith who seeks a gentleman for herself. She meets Sir Ragnor and soundly defeats him at a game at a party. Thus starts their romance.

This was the first book I read by Sahara Kelly, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was light but still complex read with memorable characters, plot twists and scandals, and juicy gossip set against Regency England. The characters were likeable, the setting was superb and really takes you back in time, and the prose used to write this book was stellar. You’ll get sucked in and will want to read it in one setting. You really can’t go wrong with this book!
  • I had a lot of fun reading this book. It is always nice to read about a strong woman during a time period such as this. I think the book is filled with great dialogue and descriptors, which helped to bring the characters to life. I feel the writing really helped to make this book shine as there are many love stories set during this period. However, this one has a unique feel with a main character that will keep you on your toes. All in all, I can’t wait to read more in the series because I had so much fun following up on these characters. I’d gladly recommend the story to others, particularly those that like to follow strong female characters, or those simply looking to go back in time and see London in such an amazing time period. You won’t be disappointed by checking this book out.
  • I really enjoyed reading this book as I loved reading about what life was like back then with the formal parties and invitations and the importance of social appearances, which I probably would not have been good at but it was fun to read about. I liked the main character, Judith, as she was very strong minded and did not seem to worry about what other people thought of her. I liked that Judith enjoyed playing cards which she learned from her mom and especially liked when she able to beat several guys at the Piquet card game when they thought they would easily beat her because she was a girl. I also liked that Judith stood up for herself and did not let anyone boss her around. The relationship between Judith and Ragnor was very sweet and their interactions always had a lot of chemistry together but also some humor too. I think they were a good balance for each other especially with what the both of them had gone through growing up. I look forward to reading more Wednesday Club books.
  • I seriously love books about this time period, especially when they are as well written as this. This is my first Sahara Kelly book and I will be reading every other book that she has written. As well as anxiously awaiting another in this new series. Judith is a character that is very relatable and the story line is easy to follow and hard to put down. I recommend this book very highly. Enjoy!
  • While this novel is set in the early 1800s London high society, don't let that fool you. The characters are relatable and there are many laugh out loud moments during the interactions between the friends in the story. I loved the byplay, witty exchanges, and the larger setting. The opposite of stuffy and stiff upper lip, the novel is very entertaining. Not quite the chaste relationships one would expect of the period, but not a contemporary romance by any means either.

Fans of romance, period novels, and well written relationship stories will love this tale. Well done!

  • A Gentleman for Judith is a beautiful story perfectly wrtitten by Sahara kelly. The two main characters were involved in a bit of drama because of the independent character of the heroine and the loved up character of the hero. The ever polite and orderly way of living in London gave the story more colour and life. I must say this book is a wonderful piece of literature and I highly recommend it for everyone.
