IXth Generation Volume 1 Matt Hawkins Stjepan Sejic Books Reviews

  • This story was a lot of fun for me as a reader. I initially was only going to read one issue from time to time, but I ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting. Combining both the supernatural and sci-fi elements of the Top Cow universe, Matt flips the script by using the greek pantheon to wrestle with themes such as immortality and consciousness all while against the backdrop of futuristic setting. Those not familiar with Top Cow's books or character have nothing to fear, because the book is highly accessible to new readers.
  • I mainly got this book as it features Stjepan Seijic's artwork, who is one of my favorite artists. I also happen to enjoy the Top Cow/Image universe and was happy with the story the book features.
Plot-wise, it can get confusing at some points, but overall, I thought it was done well, though it was more of an action story than anything else.
I did find the inclusion of the technology and philosophy sections in the back of the book to be interesting. As someone who is fascinated by what is being done with technology, these sections raise some interesting questions about how things might look in the future and the concept of merging electronics with humans as well as genetic manipulations.
If you're a science fiction fan, I'd recommend picking up this book. It has great artwork and some thought-provoking discussion afterward.

  • Our cyborg gods recreated encounter the Darkness but treachery is also involved

Following on from the new Aphrodite IX, the pantheon of cyborg gods encounter the Darkness and discover the Witchblade, the Bloodsword etc.. Treachery among the nine ensues and there are many flashbacks to confuse matters further or clarify – whiciewver works for you. (I can't be doing with loads of flashbacks – just do a chapter or two in the past instead of every couple of pages!)

More from Matt Hawkins and Stjepan Sejic with unfortunately some white print on green or black background making it hard to read in the digital edition.
